Victoria Lynn Burgess

Victoria Lynn Burgess, 43, of Six Mile, Boone County, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009.

Survivors include her mother, Shirley Collins; children, Amy Kirk, Tara McCoy, Roger Dale Bowman II and Thomas Bowman; stepdaughter, Angela Burgess; brothers, Greg and Harold Spears; and grandchildren, Keiaira Davis, Lucas McCoy, and Caitlyn Bays.

She will be greeted in heaven by her father, Bobby Spears; brother, Raymond Spears; and twin granddaughters, Stacia and Melanie Davis.

Victoria was a loving mother, daughter, wife, and grandmother and will be sadly missed, always loved and never forgotten. Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those that mourn, for they will be comforted.”

Funeral services were held on Oct. 14 at Stevens Funeral Home, Madison. Burial followed at Burgess-Marcum Cemetery, Greenview.

Grevill “Toots” Adkins

Grevill “Toots” Adkins, 81, of Danville died Oct. 10, 2009. Funeral services were held on Oct. 14 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville. Burial followed at Holstein Cemetery, Camp Creek.

Rev. Jerry G. Belcher

On Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, heaven opened its doors for the Rev. Jerry G. Belcher. He peacefully left this world to rest in the arms of Jesus with family at his side at Raleigh General Hospital after battling a short illness.

Born Feb. 28, 1944, in Edwight, he was the son of the late Virginia Workman and stepfather, Clark Workman. Additionally welcoming him into Heaven is his brother, Pat Belcher.

Jerry left behind the love of his life and best friend of 46 years, Anita “Susie” Belcher of Stickney; two sons, Gary “Chip” Belcher and wife, Ann, of Whitesville and Jody and wife, Deana, of Naoma; two daughters, Melissa Spencer and husband, Timothy, of Stickney and Aimee and husband, Rev. Toby Hilderbrand, of Stickney; three grandsons, Brandon Belcher and wife, Ashleigh, of Clear Fork, Kory Jarrell of Stickney, and Bradley Spencer of Stickney; eight granddaughters, Alicia, Kirsten and Taylor Belcher of Charleston, Teisha and Alyssa Belcher of Naoma, Tiffany and husband, Wyndell, of Arnett, Kaitlyn Cobb and one

great-grandchild, Emma Gracie Milam and one great-grandchild due in December of Charleston, and Kassidy Belcher of Stickney; three stepgranddaughters, Ashlee, Leslie, Brandy; one brother, Ricky Workman; and five sisters, Brenda Barnette, Linda Williams, Judy Dickens, Diane Murray, and Sandy Glass.

He pastored Marsh Fork Worship Center and was an ordained minister by the Freewill Baptist Church in 1976. He was a retired coal miner from Peabody Coal Mines and a member of the UMWA. He was a veteran, serving from 1964 to 1967 in the Vietnam War. He loved camping, hunting, fishing and being with his family. Above all, he loved serving the Lord.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 15 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Rev. Cecil McClellan and the Rev. Greg Scarbro officiating. Burial followed at Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 5578, Madison.

Mary Jo Barker

Mary Jo Barker, 73, of Ashford passed from this life to the presence of her Lord and Savior on Oct. 7, 2009. Surviving are her loving husband, Truman; daughters, Robin, Kelly, Marika, and Susan; and sister, Debbie Sheats.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 17 at Emmons Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert McCallister officiating.

Bonnie Louise Lane

Bonnie Louise Lane, 69, of Sharples, Logan County, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Oct. 16, 2009.

Born Feb. 7, 1940, in Blair, she was a daughter of the late Delvin and Laura Barker Osborne. Mrs. Lane was also preceded in death by sisters, Polly Pendleton and Betty Connor.

Bonnie was a former secretary for Sharples Coal Company, former receptionist for Hobet Mining Company, and a member of Ball Chapel Community Church, Jeffrey, serving as church treasurer and a member of the Ladies Aide.

Bonnie was a beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother and a real blessing to all who knew her. She was also known as a wonderful cook.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Lane of Sharples; son and daughter-in-law, Mark Elliott and Suzy Lane of Sharples; daughters and sons-in-law, Dreama Lou and James Wolfingbarger Sr. of Malden, Bobbie Ann and Kenneth Adkins of Chapmanville, and Bonnie Jo and P.J. Johnson of Madison; sisters, Oleta Miller of Bias Branch,

near Jeffrey, Peggy Stowers

of Saraland, Ala., and Sandra Cook of Blair; grandchildren,

James Wolfingbarger II, Jessie Wolfingbarger, Alisha Lane Adkins, Kenneth Zach Adkins, Davey Lockard and Allyson Johnson; four great-grandchildren; and special friends, Ned and Gaye Buckner.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 18 at Stevens Funeral Home, Madison, with Edsel Aleshire and Oliver Smith officiating. Burial followed at Family Gardens, near Madison.

Elsie E. Bailey

Elsie E. Bailey, 68, of Danville died Oct. 14, 2009.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 19 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville. Burial followed at Highland Memory Gardens, Godby.
