Holden resident Johnny Edward Workman, II, has entered a guilty plea in connection with the December 13, 2008 robbery of an area convenience store.

According to Cpl. Charles Sutphin of the West Virginia State Police Workman entered the Hatfield-McCoy Mart at Pritchard Road on that date and threatened an employee with a tire tool. A bandanna partially covering his face, Workman was charged with threatening to attack the employee if they did not hand over money.

His robbery went awry when a customer came into the store, and tried to take the weapon away from Workman. The customer and the assailant fought briefly, then Workman fled. He was soon identified as the perpetrator of the crime.

Workman was indicted earlier this year on charges of armed robbery, two counts of kidnapping and assault during a felony. Last week Workman admitted to entering the store with the tire tool and committing the robbery. He said that at the time of the crime he was under the influence of three different drugs as well as alcohol. In the end, however, Workman finally admitted to a single felony count of first degree robbery.

When he is finally sentenced, Workman faces a prison term of not less than ten years.
