Elisabeth C. Backus, 87, of Ottawa died Dec. 7, 2009. Funeral services were held on Dec. 8 at Memory Gardens, Madison. Stevens Funeral Home, Madison, is in charge of arrangements.
Walter L. Caudill
Walter L. Caudill, 91, of Madison passed from this world on Dec. 7, 2009, at Boone Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
He was a member of Madison Baptist Church and a lifelong Christian.
Walter was a 1938 graduate of Scott High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as an installer/repairman for C&P Telephone Company for 36 years before retiring in 1981. He was a life member of the Madison Elementary School PTA, a former member of the Madison Rotary Club and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Walter was born Nov. 21, 1919, and was the last surviving of the 12 children of the late Willard and Cora Caudill. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Lester in 2000 and Myron in 2009.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sybilla; two daughters, Martha (David) Hill of Madison and Susie Bryant of Little River, S.C.; and one son, Anthony at home. Papaw Caudill also leaves behind grandchildren, Jenni (Phil) Ratliff of Huntington, Todd Rogers of Nashville, Tenn., Alisha (Jonathan) Dierdorff of Culloden and Andy Caudill of Tornado; and great-grandchildren, Haley and Dylan Ratliff of Huntington.
Walter will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 10 at Stevens Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Tinnel
officiating. Burial followed at Family Memorial Gardens, near Madison.
Robert T. “Tommy” Foster
Robert T. “Tommy” Foster, of Comfort, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at his home.
He was born on April 15, 1944, in Red Dragon and was a son of the late Van and Mabel Keys Foster. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Fleetamae Foster-Owens; and brothers, Claude E. Foster, William O. “Billy” Foster, Donald Foster and Earl Foster.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marie Foster; daughters and their husbands, Donna and Dave Loughhead of Limerick, Pa., Rhonda and Jim Romero of Williamstown, N.J., and Kimberly Wiegel of Seth; sons, Howard Lyon Sr. of Philadelphia, Pa., Paul Foster of Comfort, George Stoeckle Jr. of Seth, Robert Jr. and wife, Tammarha Foster, of Mantua, N.J., and Van and wife, Agnes Foster, of Mantua, N.J.; sisters, Joann Honniker of Apopka, Fla., Etta Jean McGuire of Charleston, Mary Puckette of Hamlin, and Lorena Foster of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Jessie Foster of Whitesville; brothers and their wives, Van Jr. and Sylvia Foster of Crestview, Fla., and Earnest Paul and Sharon Foster of Lawton, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 11 at the Healing Stream Baptist Church, Seth, with Pastor Lee Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, with military rites by VFW Post 5578, Madison. Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth E. Hill
Kenneth E. Hill, 68, of Hewett passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.
He was a retired coal miner and an Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Diana; and best friend, his dog, Miss Braxton; daughter, Carla Lee Hill of Columbus, Ohio; step-daughters, Susan White of Hewett and Licia and Mark Atkins of Danville; step-son, Siegel "Sig" and Tara White of Alum Creek; grandchildren, Louden, Jon Jon, Ethan Hugh, Makenzie, Jordan and Savannah; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Diana Hill of Morgantown; and a niece, Jessica Hill.
Funeral service were , Dec. 11, with the Rev. Roger McCauley officiating. Private graveside services was held in Ferrell Cemetery, Lake.

Laurie A. May, 39, of Whitesville died Dec. 5, 2009. Funeral services were held on Dec. 12 at Colcord Presbyterian Church. Burial followed at Estep Cemetery, Ameagle.

David F. Davis, 70, of Naoma died Dec. 9, 2009. Funeral
services were held on Dec. 13 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville. Burial followed at the Davis family cemetery, Naoma.
Gaye Francis Price
Gaye Francis Price, 59, of Bim passed away Dec. 9, 2009.
She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis Price.
She is survived by her husband, Jackie; a son and his wife, Brent and Tracy of Wharton; daughters and their husbands, Melissa and Michael Lester of Beckley and Patty and Eddie Puckett, Peggy and Jimmy Richmond and Misty and Tivus Adams, all of Bim; her father, Borris Price of Quinland; brothers, Eddie of Madison, Jimmy of Wharton, Terry of Quinland, Kendal of Kentucky and Johnny of Wharton; sisters, Kim and Karlene of Madison and Lisa of Bald Knob; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 13 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with the Rev. Ray Barker officiating. Burial followed at Jarrell Cemetery, Bim.
Nancy McCann
Nancy Jarrell Richmond McCann, 108, of Twilight passed away on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at Meadow Brook Assistance with Living, Julian. She was a
homemaker and a member of Matt Creek Church of Christ.
She was born July 25, 1901, and was a daughter of the late, Lewis and Mary Miller Jarrell.
She is survived by a son, Lawrence Richmond of Twilight; sister, Mabel Meadows of Dearborn, Mich.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 14 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with Minister Richard Runion officiating. Burial followed at Memory Gardens, Madison.
