AmeriCorps seeking Energy Express site supervisors and mentors for summer positions throughout West Virginia
Interested in a unique opportunity to make a lasting difference in your community while learning valuable skills? Energy Express AmeriCorps members have the opportunity to take initiative, learn valuable skills, and make a difference in the lives of others --- all while serving their communities.
Energy Express, a nationally acclaimed AmeriCorps summer literacy and nutrition program, targets approximately 3,000 children living in low-income and rural communities throughout West Virginia. Energy Express promotes children’s school success by providing summer learning experiences focused on reading and nutritious meals served family-style.
The Energy Express program depends on the hard work and dedication of education professionals who serve as site site supervisors. Site supervisors are viewed as the heart of the program by mentoring, training, and supervising a small team of highly motivated AmeriCorps members serving as mentors and community coordinators. College student mentors create an enriching environment focused on reading, writing, and art making learning exciting for a small group of school-aged children, while community coordinators recruit, train, and supervise parent and community volunteers to read with the children while helping to support daily activities.
In the summer of 2009, Energy Express served 83 sites in 41 counties throughout West Virginia. sites in Boone County were located at Nellis and Wharton. Plans are already underway for another fun filled summer of Energy Express. Join us from June 10th- July 30th, 2010 as an Energy Express site supervisor. Don’t wait…this summer needs YOU!
Site supervisors must have a bachelor’s degree in education or related field and must not have overlapping contracts during the dates of June 10th-July 30th. Site supervisors earn $4,500 and are required to attend one of two regional training sessions offered in Morgantown and Beckley.
