Sherman put together a furious fourth-quarter rally to record a 45-44 victory over Herbert Hoover last Monday at Clay County High School.
The Lady Tide trailed 15-10 after the first quarter, 24-15 at halftime and 34-27 after the third quarter but used an 18-10 scoring advantage in the final period to earn a hard-fought, come-from-behind victory.
Not surprisingly, senior forward Madison Bowman led the way for Sherman. The Boone County team’s most consistent and most competitive player, she scored a game-high 22 points.
Senior point guard Megan Williams followed with nine points. Senior guard Jessica Hudson and sophomore forward Hallie Jarrell finished with five and three points, respectively.
Senior forward Taylor Dodrill, senior guard Crystal Halstead and sophomore guard Skylar Pauley added two points apiece.
With the win, Sherman advanced to the sectional semifinals to face top-seeded Sissonville.
The Lady Tide’s season came to an end with a 61-44 loss against the Lady Indians.
Sherman trailed 13-10 after the first quarter, 29-15 at halftime and 42-27 after the third quarter.
Bowman led the Lady Tide with 13 points, followed by Williams with 11 points, Halstead with seven points, Hudson with four points, Pauley with three points, Jarrell with two points, freshman forward Mackenzie Smith with two points, Dodrill with one point and sophomore Emily Donohue with one point.
Sherman finished the season with a 6-13 record.
The Lady Tide will lose five of its main players — Bowman, Dodrill, Halstead, Hudson and Williams — to graduation. However, promising players such as freshman guard Brittany Brewer, Donohue, Jarrell, Pauley and Smith will return next season.

The season-ending battle of the Lady Bulldogs went to Burch, which advanced to the Class A Region 4, Section 2 tournament semifinals last Monday with a
56-19 win over Van at Man High School.
Burch led 22-2 after the first quarter and cruised to the
postseason victory.
Junior guard Becca Meadows scored a team-high eight points for Van. Senior guard Hannah Brown followed with seven points. Junior guard Hillary Hall and freshman guard Keirsten Vint added two points apiece.
Van finished the season with a 3-16 record under first-year coach Joey Shea, who will lose Brown and senior forward Shelby Matteson to graduation.
In addition to Meadows, Hall and Vint, Van also will return junior guard Brittany Adkins, junior point guard Toni Gogas, junior forward Amber Pridemore, junior guard Laura Slone, sophomore guard Cori Martin, sophomore forward Amber Webb and freshman Holland Adkins.
