Rebecca Christian Cline was recently in Boone County Circuit Court seeking a motion for reconsideration in her early 1990s sentence.
Court documents stated that Cline was convicted of first degree murder without murder, malicious assault, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful shooting and carrying a concealed weapon. If she serves the entire number of years in her sentence, Cline faces a term of life plus thirty-seven years in custody.
In her appeal, Cline’s attorney asserted that the woman “has no previous record of criminal or anti-social behavior and would like to become a productive citizen again.” It also said Cline “has had ample and sufficient time during her incarceration to reflect upon the behavior that is the root of her incarceration. Because of that reflection, the defendant feels a tremendous amount of shame and is truly remorseful for the pain that her actions have inflicted upon the victims and her family as well.”
Cline’s document stated that she is determined to “show the public that she is a role model inmate at Lakin Correctional Center.” The woman heads tours for the Scared Straight Program, where she “explains to teens her age how her situation to try and sway them away from making the same mistakes that she did when she was their age.” The appeal also suggested that her incarceration is a “major contributing factor to the illness of her mother.”
Judge Hoke denied her motion for reconsideration of sentence without comment on March 3rd.
