Under coach Jim Henderson, the Lady Tide returns six seniors who saw quality playing time last year.
The Lady Tide has very high expectations, especially with so much senior leadership.
There aren’t many flaws with this team, which has a very talented infield. If there is a concern, it is pitching depth.
Sherman has only one solid returning pitcher in senior Brittany May.
Freshmen pitchers Taylor Hendricks and Tori May should have many opportunities to step on the diamond and show their young talent, however. Rest and short innings will be the key for Sherman’s ace, who will have a senior-loaded infield behind her with Madison Bowman behind the plate, Taylor Dodrill at first base, Jessica Hudson at second base and Megan Williams at shortstop.
Led by its veteran nucleus, the Lady Tide is aiming for a run at a state championship.
Sherman dropped to 5-8 last week with a 2-0 loss to St. Vincent Pallotti (Md.), an 8-5 loss to Beaumont (Ohio) and a 6-1 loss to St. Paul VI of Fairfax (Va.) in the Grand Strand Tournament at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Lady Tide’s record also includes a 4-3 loss to Liberty Raleigh, a 3-2 win over Liberty Raleigh, a 4-3 win over Herbert Hoover, a 2-0 win over Clay County, a 9-3 win over Shady Spring, an 8-7 loss to Shady Spring, a 5-4 loss to Logan and a 1-0 loss to Independence.
