Raamie Barker, senior advisor to Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, visited the Madison Rotary Club on behalf of the governor. Introduced by Rotarian Madison Mayor ‘Sonny’ Howell, Barker spoke about some of the accomplishments of the Tomblin administration, and stated other goals including the “number one goal of creating more jobs for West Virginians,” and the continuation of providing better educational opportunities for the state’s children. Another guest of the Rotarians was Delegate Larry Barker who, along with Senator Ron Stollings, was instrumental in getting legislation passed that enabled the Boone County Commission to turn over the Boone Memorial Hospital to BMH, Inc. and a governing board of trustees, therefore making it possible for the hospital to become a 501-c-3 corporation and advancing the plans for a new hospital. With much work by everyone involved in the project, Boone Memorial just learned that the project has been approved for a full USDA loan and the building of the new hospital can now go forward.
