Recently, Tori May, a senior at Sherman High School, was recognized at a “student of excellence” in the Fourth Annual EQT Students of Excellence Recognition issue of The State Journal.
Inside the special publication, student profiles of high school seniors from all 55 counties throughout West Virginia were featured, including May from Boone County.
“These students are truly exceptional — they are students who have excelled in the classroom, contributed time and talent to their schools and also worked to improve their communities,” it said in the article. “The accomplished students highlighted in this year’s edition represent both large and small high schools in cities and rural regions of the state. While they have different experiences and aspirations, they have one strong common trait: They are planning for the future and developing their path toward their educational and career goals.”
May has a grade point average of 4.1. Her activities and achievements including being Sherman High School’s senior class vice president, captain of the volleyball team and a member of the National Honor Society. She has volunteered throughout her community with Hi-Y, including the annual Heritage Fair. She has competed in math field day events and represented Sherman High and the Boone County Honors Academy.
