Representative Josh Nelson (R-Boone County) is asking Armalite, Inc. manufacturers to move their operation from Illinois, where lawmakers are mulling wider gun restrictions, to West Virginia, which Nelson describes as "pro-second Amendment."
Armalite, Inc. manufactures semiautomatic weapons.
"It would bring some jobs for some people that are hurting," said Nelson. "And the mountaineer workforce is the best in the world."
Nelson, 25, created a Facebook page to coax Armalite to the state.
"It lets them know, 'Hey, you're welcome in West Virginia."
Nelson has also written a letter to the company CEO but has yet to hear back. In the meantime, the Armalite Facebook page has been filled with West Virginia pictures and trivia since Friday. To Nelson, a hopeful sign.
"I think these folks are ready to get to work," said Nelson.
