Betty Anderson of Anna Maria, FL lost her battle with cancer April 23, 2012 at the age of 82.

Born in Hookersville, WV in 1929, she graduated from college in Parkersburg, WV and moved to Washington DC, where she began working and met her husband, John. She became a Navy wife and mother and moved from DC to FL and VA following her husband’s Naval career. After his retirement, the family moved to MD where she worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center until she retired.

Betty moved to Anna Maria in 1981 and enjoyed many years of working with the various wildlife and historical groups on the island with her aunt Jeanne. She loved the beautiful island and close knit community.

Betty is predeceased by parents, Pearl and Otto McCoy of Clothier WV; husband, John; son, David; and her aunts, Jeanne Blassingame and Katie Kirby (maiden names Toman).

She is survived by her son and daughter, four grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was loved dearly and will be missed by many.

Betty wished to return to her beloved WV so a graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens cemetery in Danville, WV at 11 a.m. June 14, 2012.

If anyone in the area remembers Betty or her family, her children would love to hear from them. Please leave contact information with Ira Handley at Handley Funeral home so he can get the information to them.

You may express your condolences to the family at www.handleyfh.com.

Arrangements by Handley Funeral Home, Danville.
