Willard MacArthur “Arthur” Sampson, 69, of Wharton passed away September 6, 2012 at his home.

He was born March 12, 1943 and was a son of the late Deenie and Ester Goodwin Smith.

He was a retired coal miner of Local Union 781. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, puzzles and a good game of cards.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanamie Sampson of Wharton; three sons, Arthur Junior “Ardy” Sampson of Wharton, Bruce Sampson and wife Christy of Wharton and Dewayne Sampson and wife Alice of Lancaster, SC; eight grandchildren; sister, Tina Goodwin Smith of Big Ugly; three brothers, Doug “Dusty” Smith and wife Susie of Big Ugly, Lucky Smith and wife Reva of North Fork and Deenie June Smith and wife Pauline of Ohio. ‘

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, September 10 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with ministers, Ronnie Gibson and Jimmy Rupe officiating. Burial followed in Highland Memorial Gardens, Godby.
