Human skeletal remains were recovered in a wooded area on May 2 in the Bricktown area of Nellis in Boone County.

PRESTON BRANCH -- The body of a man was recovered Thursday afternoon in a wooded area of Preston Branch, which is near the unincorporated area of Twilight in Boone County.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a call about a missing family member around 11 a.m. Thursday. 

Multiple fire and medical agencies, including the Boone County Ambulance Authority, launched a search that led to body being found around 2 p.m. in a remote area.

On Thursday, Boone County Sheriff Chad Barker said via text message that the investigation is active and the name of the deceased would not yet be released.


Sheriff Barker said via text on Friday that the investigation was handed over to the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources. He confirmed that the death is being investigated as a possible hunting accident. The DNR could not be reached on Friday for comment.
