BOONE COUNTY — Boone County has slipped back to an “orange” status on the state’s school alert map updated and published on Oct. 3 after experiencing a week in the “yellow” status.

Also in the orange category with Boone are Upshur and Harrison counties, shifting those school systems to remote learning with extra-curricular activities like sports moving to a “conditioning activities only” status.

Showing gold on the map are Kanawha, Barbour, Berkeley, Randolph, Doddridge and Jackson counties.

The county school systems in yellow for the next week include Lincoln, Putnam, Grant, Summers, Mingo, Wayne, Nicholas and Wyoming counties.

There are 38 counties in the “green” category for the upcoming week.

Counties are coded by their positivity rate or the rolling daily average of COVID-19 cases, depending on which is lower.
