MADISON — During the Boone County Commission’s regular scheduled meeting on Nov. 15, the commission accepted Sheriff Chad Barker’s request to rehire Deputy Ronnie Frye at an annual salary of $35,640.
Frye resigned from the Boone County Sheriff’s office recently to pursue a position in Logan, but he recently contacted Barker, asking to return to Boone’s department.
“He’s a good kid and we have high aspirations for him; that’s part of the reason I was upset when he left in the beginning,” Barker told commissioners.
Because he was paid for his accrued time upon his resignation, Frye’s annual leave will begin at zero, but he will maintain his military and sick leave.
Also during the meeting, the commission tabled Assessor Scotty Cook’s request to purchase three vehicles with American Rescue Plan funds.
The new vehicles would replace the ones his employees currently use. Cook said he plans to provide more details to commissioners at a future meeting.
Cook also announced plans for a Christmas decorating ceremony at the courthouse on Dec. 1. Madison Elementary School students will attend and provide homemade decorations for the tree.
Additionally during the meeting, the commission approved Boone County Emergency Management Agency Executive Director Michael Mayhorn’s request to hold a public hearing in relation to proposed revisions to the county’s 911 ordinance. The proposed revision would include raising landline monthly 911 fees to $2.50 per line.
Mayhorn said that fee is in line with similar counties.
The county last upped the fee in 2016.
