MADISON - The City of Madison confirmed on Oct. 2 that they are cooperating fully with the West Virginia State Auditor's Office, who is currently reviewing city records.
According to city officials, the nature of the audit stems from specific wage withholding records not being forwarded to the Department of Labor.
City Manager and Chief of Police Chet Burgess said that the problem was identified in recent months and that the city was proactive in bringing auditors in to identify the problem.
"We're very early in this process," he said. "We are being completely transparent in regards to this situation and we are cooperating with the auditors at every level. We will provide more specific information to the public once this process is complete."
There is no indication at this time as to when investigators will complete their audit.
