CHARLESTON — The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported 1,880 new COVID-19 cases and 16 additional deaths on Jan. 9.

The DHHR report stated that as of Saturday morning, there were a total of 1,629,749 results received for COVID-19, with 99,778 total cases and 1,570 of those cases resulting in deaths. As of Saturday, 768 people were hospitalized, showing a drop from Friday. The number hospitalized in ICU had dipped slightly to 200, and 98 of those patients were on ventilators.

The daily alert map was largely red, with 42 counties at the highest level of COVID-19 transmission. One dozen more counties were in the “orange” status. The map reflected Clay County in “gold” status, boasting the lowest transmission in the state.

Locally, Boone County continued a trend of “red” status.

According to the dashboard, as of Saturday morning, 109,440 doses of the vaccine have been received, and 88,128 have been administered.

According to the DHHR on Saturday, there were 1,880 new cases reported within the last 24 hours and 28,980 cases are still considered active, with 69,228 people recovered.
