Human skeletal remains were recovered in a wooded area on May 2 in the Bricktown area of Nellis in Boone County.

NELLIS — Human skeletal remains were recovered on May 2 in the Bricktown area of Nellis, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency responded immediately after receiving a call regarding possible human remains at the site, which was described as a wooded area.

“Investigators hiked into the site late that night and made the decision to secure it and work the scene after daylight,” Sheriff Chad Barker said via email. “We traveled back there Monday morning and spent several hours searching the wooded area and processing the scene. The recovered remains had obviously been exposed to the elements for some time.”

Barker added that the identity of the person is not known as of yet, but it could bring answers to a possible missing persons case within the county.

“We are currently working with the medical examiner’s office to get an identity on the remains,” he said. “We have been in contact with a local family who filed a missing persons complaint with us approximately five months ago. We can’t confirm any identities at this point, but we feel the two cases have strong similarities.”
