POWELL CREEK — A man was arrested and charged on Sept. 3 with child neglect — creating risk of substantial bodily injury after a complaint was made with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

Casey Smith, 34, with an address listed on the criminal complaint in Charleston, was arrested and charged in relation to the case.

According to the complaint filed by Deputy BN Mullins, two juveniles were housed at a Powell Creek residence on home confinement orders.

Mullins and a probation officer, Travis Havey, traveled to the residence and made contact with the two teenagers. Mullins asked whether Smith was at the residence; the report states the juveniles advised that he was in the back room.

According to the report, Havey asked one of the teenagers whether they would test positive for any drugs, and they replied that they possibly would test positive for THC, alcohol and methamphetamine.

Also noted in the report, the teenager told the officer that he was provided the substances by his step-father Casey Smith several days ago, and said on a recorded device that the defendant had smoked marijuana, drank alcohol and smoked methamphetamine with him.

As of CVN print deadline, Smith was held at the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $40,000 surety/cash bond.
