ASHFORD — A Costa Man is being held in Southwestern Regional Jail on multiple charges after he allegedly tried to run over a West Virginia State Trooper with a 4-wheeler.
Trooper EM Shafer wrote in the report that he was in the Ashford area of Boone County on Oct. 13 attempting to locate Jeremy Phillip Burgess, 32, who was wanted on multiple felony warrants.
Shafer said he located the man on a side street near Ashford Lane. The officer said he exited his patrol car and ordered Burgess, who had a female passenger on the back of a 4-wheeler, to stop.
The report states that Burgess refused to stop and proceeded to drive the ATV toward the officer. Shafer gave chase on foot after the ATV turned onto Ashford Lane and eventually passed children playing at a high rate of speed in a reckless manner, according to the report. Burgess allegedly crossed the track and rode the vehicle out of site.
Burgess was later arrested and charged with fleeing, obstructing, no insurance, driving suspended, a passenger on a 4-wheeler and ATV on highway with center line. Burgess has three cases pending with one bond set at $100,000 property/surety and the other at 10% of $5,000 (cash).
