COW CREEK — A Wharton man was charged on Oct. 15 in relation to the theft of a side-by-side vehicle in the Wharton area of Boone County.

Robert Bennett, 18, of 35437 Pond Fork Road, was charged with grand larceny by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

According to an incident report prepared by Deputy Daniel Cottrell, the office was advised that a red Polaris 500 was stolen and left in the Cow Creek area.

Once on the scene, the officer located the vehicle and had it transported to the Wharton Fire Department, where the owner identified it as his property.

The owner stated that it was stolen from his residence at Top Camp on Sept. 18. A witness told the deputy that he witnessed Bennett on the stolen vehicle and that prior to that, Bennett had told him that he was getting a side-by-side. A second witness confirmed the statements by the first witness through communications with the deputy.

As of Coal Valley News print deadline, Bennett was not held at Southwestern Regional Jail.
