TURTLE CREEK — A woman was arrested and charged after a man was shot in the back inside a mobile home at 10 Alma Lane in Turtle Creek.
Kristie Shawn Mitchell, 44, was charged with malicious wounding and wanton endangerment after a man sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of his back, according to an incident report prepared by West Virginia State Trooper EM Shafer.
According to the report, Trooper Shafer and Sgt. MS Lively reported to the scene after a call for a “shots fired” incident.
The report states that after the troopers arrived, they found the victim lying on his stomach in the floor. The report goes on to say that the accused, Mitchell, was hysterically crying and saying, “I didn’t mean to.”
The accused stated to troopers that there was a pistol under the coffee table in the living room, which is where officers found a Taurus .38 revolver with five live cartridges and one spent casing in the cylinder, according to the report.
The officers observed and photographed a single gunshot hole in the front door of the mobile home that traveled through the door and through the adjacent storm door. The officers observed multiple beer cans throughout the residence, according to the report.
The victim was transferred to CAMC General by Boone County EMS for treatment and the accused was transported to the West Virginia State Police detachment in Danville for questioning.
The report further states that Mitchell said she had fired a single gunshot that struck the victim in the back and that further statements were inconsistent with evidence that the officers found at the scene.
As of Coal Valley News print deadline, Mitchell was held at the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $20,000 surety/cash bond.
