SETH — Hunter Bush scored 30 points to lead the Big Blacks of Point Pleasant to a 68-44 win over Sherman in a boys basketball game at Seth on Dec. 20.

Class AA Point Pleasant used their size and unforced Tide gaffes to outrebound Class A Sherman while Bush had an excellent night shooting the ball.

“We haven’t had enough carry over from practice to the games,” said first-year Sherman Coach Aaron Pauley. “We practice fast and with intensity and it hasn’t showed up in the last two games.”

With the exception of a 3-point bucket from RJ Cline in the opening frame, Sherman started slow and fell behind 14-6 early in the contest. Braxton Yates and Bush hit treys for the away team early to help put Point Pleasant in the driver’s seat.

Sherman’s Chris Abbott heated up in the second frame and Sherman went to the locker room down by 11 at intermission.

“We know we have a tough four-game stretch here, but we should be taking advantage of games against these types of opponents and using them to get better,” added Pauley. “Right now we have played eight quarters without running our offense and our transition. Most of that is due to the other teams and their coaches but some of it is because we don’t have a lot of carry over and/or confidence in ourselves or others. All of us can do better and that includes coaches and players.”

Sherman was flat in the third quarter, only scoring seven points, but netted 17 in the fourth and seemed to score the ball better in the odd quarters of the game.

Bush proved a tough matchup defensively for Sherman as he scored from the perimeter and in transition for the Big Blacks. Chris Abbott led Sherman with 12 points.

Sherman will play at River View on Jan. 3 before returning home to host Buffalo on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
