ASHTON — The Scott High Lady Skyhawks took on Hannan at the Lady Wildcats’ home court on Dec. 3. The game marked the first game under new head coach Kevin Harper, who joined the team during preseason just weeks beforehand.

The game began with Hannan taking a 12-9 lead over the Lady Hawks in quarter 1, with Lady Wildcats junior Halie Johnson scoring 6 of those points. Scoring was spread out over the Scott team, with 3 points scored by freshman Jenna Butcher and 2 points scored each by sophomore Shea Miller, junior Leah Davis, and senior Chloe Older.

Scott managed to turn things around by taking the lead in the second quarter, with Butcher scoring 7 more points in an effort that put the Lady Hawks up 24-20 by the end of the first half.

Their opponents were kept mostly quiet in the meantime, only scoring 8.

Hannan fought back well after the half, earning a combined total of 16 points to give themselves 36 points, once again led by Halie Johnson, who managed to score an impressive 11 of those points.

Scott, however, answered with a combined total of 20 points, this time with contributions from Butcher, Miller, Davis, and sophomore Gracie Ferrell.

The teams went into the final quarter with a 44-36 differential, with another 10 points from Scott and 7 points from Hannan to end the game 54-43, giving the new Scott team their first victory in their first game.

Jenna Butcher led the Lady Hawks in scoring, tallying 16 points over the game.

She is followed closely behind by Leah Davis and Shea Miller, who each scored 14. Meanwhile, Halie Johnson scored 17 for Hannan, with junior Bailey Coleman scoring 12.

Scott High (2-1) plays Ravenswood (2-0) at home at 8 p.m. on Dec. 13. Hannan (0-1) hosts Fairview (0-0) at 6 p.m. on Dec. 16.
