MADISON — Griffin Miller signed his letter of intent on Dec. 22 to continue his baseball career as a member of the Marshall Thundering Herd.
Griffin has been a standout for Scott’s baseball program over the last three years, both with the bat and on the mound.
He is expected to act predominantly as a pitcher at Marshall, but he also might end up seeing some college at bats.
“It’s just a tremendous opportunity for him. He was a part of the first little league team I ever coached in baseball, and the Harper and Miller family both have made tremendous impacts on my family,” said Scott coach Kris Barrett. “It’s amazing to be able to watch Griff grow up and turn into the type of player that he is. Every coach says this about a player, but he really is the hardest-working high school kid I’ve ever seen in my life. I’ve been around this game for 25-plus years, and the work ethic he has is something I’ve never seen in anybody.
“He’s a fierce competitor; it doesn’t matter what he does, he competes at it. As a player, Marshall is getting a tremendous kid, but as a person, they’re getting an even better man,” concluded Barrett.
Miller spoke about his opportunity to play at Marshall.
“I’m just really excited to get there and get started with the upgraded new facilities, joining the new conference which is really competitive in baseball, the Sun Belt, and play for the new coach that’s coming in,” he said.
“It’s been awesome to play for a coach like Barrett. I’ve known him for years, since I was real little, and he actually coached me in minor league baseball as well. It’s just been fun to reunite with coach Barrett.”
Although Miller is excited to start his college playing career, he’s not forgetting about his upcoming senior season of high school baseball.
“Individually, I definitely want to be able to make the first team all-state list. As a team, I definitely want to win a sectional, and hopefully go as far as we can with that,” concluded Miller.
